Anthony White (born in 1994) is a Black/Queer artist and curator based in Seattle, Washington. He earned his BFA from Cornish College of the Arts in 2018 and serves as a board member of the Lillian Miller Foundation, an organization dedicated to advancing educational opportunities for LGBTQIA+ youth.
Anthony's work is meticulously spun from common polylactic-acid and consists of intricate portraits and still-life that critique the contemporary cultural landscape, and disrupts hierarchies of status and wealth by placing seemingly trivial, low-brow accoutrements in palacial and referential environments.
In recognition of his artistic achievements, Anthony was honored with the 2021 Seattle Art Museum Betty Bowen Award, the 2020 Neddy Painting Award, and a 2020 Fellowship Award from Artist Trust. He has had solo presentations at EXPO Chicago and has participated in group exhibitions at esteemed institutions like KÖNIG Galerie Berlin, the Frye Art Museum, and the Henry Art Gallery. Some of his recent solo exhibitions include 'Limited Liability' at the Seattle Art Museum, 'Extended Warranty' at Greg Kucera Gallery, 'Cultural Crisis' at the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery at Central Washington University, 'Black Friday' at PUBLIC Gallery London, among others. White’s work is collected internationally, and is in the permanent collections of institutions including the Frye Art Museum, Crocker Art Museum, Seattle Art Museum, Figge Art Museum, the Sinegal Center for Science and Innovation, and more.
Throughout his career, White's curatorial efforts have brought artists from around the world to Seattle, WA. Notable endeavors include 'While Supplies Last,' an ever-evolving affordable-works group exhibition featuring over 700 participating artists, 'Ultra Light Beams,' a twelve-person exhibition highlighting post-analog rhythms and aesthetics in the age of the internet, and most recently, 'In Crystallized Time,' a group exhibition featuring twenty-eight artists at the Museum of Museums that examined the history of painting through a contemporary lens.
